Heather Pym2021 MQUNSOC PresidentDuring my experience with MQUNSOC, I attended a number of interstate and international MUNs, meeting delegates from universities across the world as well as new friends at Macquarie. I represented many different nations, gaining a wider understanding of international policy, law and culture.
Leading MQUNSOC was an extraordinary privilege, and I felt honoured to be able to teach the practice and procedure of the United Nations to new members through events and Macquarie, and to high school students through our programs run externally. I can credit MQUNSOC with a lot of the skills I have developed in research and advocacy that I apply every day in my professional career as a lawyer. I am also remarkably grateful for the lifelong friends I made with other MUN delegates, members of the society and the fantastic executive team. |

I joined to gain more experience with public speaking and to meet likeminded individuals. What was most comforting was that we were able to openly discuss critical world issues and learn from others who may have had different experiences that have shaped their perspectives of these world issues.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have assisted in the leading a team of amazing executives (read: friends) to help grow the club and to offer unique experiences for our members. I highly recommend students from all different academic backgrounds to join and partake in MQUNSOC! |

Ella Spencer2022 MQUNSOC PresidentMy experience and time with MQUNSOC was one of the most valuable parts of my time at university. MQUNSOC provided me with the opportunity to practice my advocacy and negotiation skills in a safe and friendly environment. I learnt how to not only express myself, but argue my point of view in more sophisticated ways. MQUNSOC challenges you to understand opinions and perspectives that may not align with your own, which is a vital skill in diplomacy.
I have met some really wonderful people through MQUNSOC that I remain friends with today. MQUNSOC opened many doors for me professionally, leading to partnerships with the U.S. Consulate and contacts in many different international organisations. Your experience in MQUNSOC is what you make of it, and if you show people that you care and bring forward new ideas you will be greatly rewarded! |
